I'm a big fan of the original trams too - memories of the R.E.M. video with Patti Smith on the No. 22 and my then 2 year old son (he's almost 18 now) falling asleep in one on a cold February day when the seats were nice and warm.
They had old trams in Budapest as well, when I visited there in the early 2000's. They too are being replaced with modern en less characterfull ones :(
This generation of trams is unfortunately slowly disappearing from the streets, replaced by new ones. Useless to say, I don't like the new ones.
