departure

I really didn't want to do it too fast, but things are almost never as we plan them. I still haven't finished packing my bags, but I'm leaving Prague tomorrow morning for Paris. For good, or almost, this time. So I have to tell you this is probably the last post on my Prague's photoblog. I will definitely come back to Prague, I will have to anyway in the near future, at least to finish moving everything - I am really not able to pack my life in 2 bags- but ... Prague is moving very fast, and today was full of "last time". I will love Prague for-ever-and-ever, for all its sides, but I'm pretty sure it will never be my Prague anymore.

Keep checking, a Kakna's Paris will probably come out soon, hope to see you there :)

edit: the Paris blog is up and running. http://kaknaparis.blogspot.com

Yesterday and today were really cold...time to squat the tea rooms again!

23 October 2009

Off Wenceslas square, in the very center of the city, get the best teas of the world... head to Dobra Cajovna

giant bin

Once in a while, empty containers are placed for a day on the street, so anybody can throw out what they want to get rid of and can't be put in the regular bin. It can also be a good occasion to furnish a flat for free if you're not against a bit of renovation :)

wooden insides

I missed the European Heritage Days this year. It was last weekend, and I completely forgot about it. Two or three years ago, I went to visit the wooden church in Liben, on Zenklova street (Kostel sv. Vojtěcha), built in 1905. The interior was really amazing...

24 July 2009

beyond expectations

The promised "marina" still looks like some abandonned docks... I wonder what the new proud owners of these expensive flats think about the view

23 July 2009

dominant architecture

The National Memorial on Vitkov hill... when I was seeing it from far away, I thought it was a huge concrete box. From a closer view it's obvious that it is much more than that, and not even made of concrete.

20 July 2009

french corner

A bit of France in Prague : the french institute, comprising a cafe, a large cinema and conference room, exhibition spaces, classrooms and a mediatheque

12 June 2009

music downstairs

I've already mentionned it and posted related pictures, in Prague, social life and cultural events are held for the majority underground, litterally. This time at Roxy, concert down the stairs.

health care

This is where you wait to have an X-ray done (you have to speak to the nurse through that tiny window in the wall). All the health care centers look that dull, even gloomy...I have gotten used to it now, but at the beginning I was very sensitive to the way these places looked... it made me feel even worse.

08 April 2009

old n' dirty

In the historical center... now, yes Prague is a very nice city, romantic and all, full of life and art and stuff, but hey, it also looks like that. And that's why we (I?) like it so much.

31 March 2009

febio concerts

Concerts and beer hall in an underground parking... That's only during Febiofest, a movie festival taking place now at Andel

09 March 2009

pixel building

What are these funny boards doing on this building? Ladies and gentlemen, this is what the buildings are made of ( almost) here, under the paint that make them regain their historical look: polystyrene and styrofoam.

14 February 2009

moved

The vegetables market moved places with the Prague Market area in Holesovice. It's now in a hall at the opposite where it was before, and the hall is so small that not all of the sellers fit in. So a couple of them are brave enough to stand outside in the cold... and this morning was exceptionally sunny, I can't imagine they are waiting there the other days.

06 February 2009

private exhibition

Honza discovered this "garden" two months ago... And I walked through it by chance last week, when I went to have a closer look at the boats.

31 January 2009

frozen

The river's dead arm at Liben has been frozen for weeks now, keeping the boats prisonners for winter. This morning it even got covered with a thin layer of snow...

29 January 2009

painted ad (2)

In Jindrisska street, close to the famous post office, right in the center of Prague...

23 January 2009

still standing

Sunny day yesterday!! Fantastic! These old industrial halls look so good under the sun... This one is still standing in Karlin, but nothing much is planned for it. It sometimes hosts contemporary art exhibitions, fairs, or theatre plays...

teapots

A scanned "old" film photo for tonight... featuring these cute teapots from Dobra Cajovna again!
